This is a review of Luvs Triple Leakguards diapers. These are available in packs of 26, 104, 168, and 198 count in size three. For our review today we purchased a bag of 26 for $4.97 and this averaged to about 19 cents each. If you were to purchase these in bulk you can expect to pay about $30 for a box of 198 and this will bring the cost down to 15 cents each.
Luvs Triple Leakguards have two designs in each bag. One design has cute pandas, and the other has whales. Both have a light purple background with the brand name "Luvs" spaced evenly throughout. The front of the diaper features the size indicator along the waistline, and the word "Back" is on the back waistline to indicate orientation. A faint yellow wetness indicator runs down the middle and turns blue when moisture is detected.
Luvs Triple Leakguards are one of the very few diapers that do not have a stretchable rear waistband, and this can affect how well it fits around your baby's waist. The rear wings help make up for this as they are very stretchy and soft to the touch. From wing tip to wing tip the back of the diaper can stretch up to 14.5 inches which is slightly better than average. The sticky tabs are one of the smallest measured to date at only 3/4 of an inch and are purple in color. Although short, the sticky tabs have excellent performance when adhering to the front tab landing zone. They also have very good (best tested so far) performance when sticking to the body with no ability to stick to the small front wings.
Luvs is the only brand to feature a colored inner top sheet, while all other manufacturers have a standard white top sheet. This blue top sheet is very soft to the touch, and the absorbent padding is the thinnest and lightest tested to date. Although it is thin, it has extremely good performance dealing with moisture. It was the second-fastest absorbing currently tested for the 50ml test and the fastest absorbing diaper for the second 50ml test. Part of this performance is due to the moisture-wicking channels that run in the crotch area. (as seen in the center of the picture to the right) They help disperse fluid rapidly across the entire absorbent padding versus allowing moisture to pool in just one place. This keeps the top sheet extremely dry at only 16.7% (a very good rating) at the wettest point measured after the 120-second test. This proves that a good design can have extremely good performance even though it has a shorter and narrower average absorbent pad.
The standing leg gathers are shorter than other brands at only 9 inches in length. This is more than an inch shorter than the average size three diaper. Luvs does make up for this with extra tall leg gathers that stand up at 1.75 inches in height. We found that the extra 17 percent in height really helps contain moisture and solids from escaping from the sides of this diaper.
Some features that make these stand out from other manufacturers is the noticeable fragrance to the product. I would describe the smell as a unique baby powder scent. Before you purchase these, you can definitely smell the product through the bag, and it is noticeably much stronger after it is has been opened. Other unique features include the blue absorbent padding and purple outer cover.
Extremely good moisture performance. Very thin and light. Very tall leg gathers. Scented (you either love or hate this) Very affordable. Wetness indicator.
Back waistband has no stretch to it at all and this could lead to fit issues. Strong scent (like we said you may like or hate this). Absorbent padding and leakguards do not run as long as most other brands.
