Today we are reviewing Huggies Little Snugglers diapers in size three. These are available in sizes preemie through size six and come in packs of 26, 76, 136, and 156 for size three. We purchased a bag of 26 for $8.99, which brings the cost to 35 cents each. Buying a box of 156 cuts the cost down to 29 cents each. These are a little more expensive than other brands, but the quality quickly makes up for the added expense as we will explain below.
The outer shell has a breathable back sheet featuring Winnie the Pooh characters flying on balloons. The front of the diaper has a large number three to indicate size, while the back has the word back written in a cloud in cursive to indicate direction. A yellow wetness indicator runs down the center and turns blue when it detects moisture. We found it was easy to see the wetness indicator in a dark room, letting us know when a change was needed. We like that the Huggies are one of the few manufacturers that cut an ergonomic hourglass shape that allows for a better fit around your baby’s legs. They seem to be the only brand that does this in a size three.
The rear waistband is very stretchable, while the wings themselves do not have a lot of give to them. The fastening system is one of the best tested. The sticky tabs are very long at 1.5 inches, and the majority of the tabs have a Velcro-like texture that sticks extremely well to any part of the outer shell. This diaper is unique in that it has another fastening system built into the front tape landing zone. The two purple strips on the front wings (pictured to the right) grab onto the rear wings as it is wrapped around a baby’s waist. These additional strips really help stay fastened, especially if you have an active baby.
The absorbent padding is average in length at 12.5 inches, and we liked that it runs all the way up to and within one inch of the front waistline. The absorbent padding has the second-best total absorbency only falling slightly behind Huggies Little Movers. Although super absorbent, the Little Movers scored average times in how long it took to absorb liquids below the top sheet. Once the liquids were absorbed, we found that this is the driest diaper tested to date after the 120-second absorbency test making it an excellent choice for overnight or extended use (such as airplane rides when a change may need to wait until it is safe to do so). Another great feature is that the absorbent padding has a texture to it that helps stop leaks by slowing liquid down before it has a chance to flow out the side.
One of our favorite parts of the Huggies Little Snugglers is the back pocket. The back pocket is an additional extra deep leak guard that runs across the rear waistline as seen in the top of the picture to the right. This feature is only found on the Huggies Little Snugglers, and it does a great job at stopping a mess from escaping up your baby's back (more commonly known as a blowout). Additionally, the standing leak guards are the longest tested to date at 12 inches long and are great for stopping leaks as they also stand 1.5 inches tall.
This is the only diaper on the market that has a back pocket to prevent rear blowouts. Longest leg gathers that work great to stop leaks. Features Winnie the Pooh characters.
This is one of our favorite diapers as it is the driest tested to date. It is also the second most absorbent tested in terms of total absorbency. We like the super long and tall leg gathers that include the back pocket.
One of the most expensive diapers tested to date. They are thicker and heavier than most other brands on the market. Although it has very good absorbency, the time it took to absorb moisture was average.
