Today we are reviewing the Huggies Little Movers diaper. These Huggies are available in sizes three through six and quantities of 25, 84, 140, and 162 for size three. For our review, we purchased a bag of 25 for $7.99 which averages to about 32 cents each. Currently, a box of 140 is your best value at a cost of $39.99 bringing the average cost down to 28 cents each. Although this may seem high the performance is well worth the cost, especially for extended or overnight use.
The outer shell features Disney’s Mickey Mouse flying a kite. The front of the diaper has a size indication and the brand name Huggies Little Movers. On the back of Mickey’s kite string spells out the word back to help differentiate the front from the back. Running down the center is a yellow wetness indicator that turns blue when wet, and we feel that it is easy to see when a change is needed in a low light room. The outer shell has an hourglass striped pattern to break up the otherwise typical plain white background that most other brands seem to have. The Huggies Little movers also have a unique body-conforming cut to them. Unlike other manufacturers that have a straight cut along the legs, Huggies Little Movers has an hourglass shape allowing for a more comfortable, ergonomic, and better fitting diaper.
We liked how well the back waistline stretches, allowing for a secure fit, although the rear wings only have a small amount of stretch to them. The Little Movers features "double grip strips" that help keep the rear wings in place when wrapped around your baby. They are purple in color and are a second set of Velcro-like material that does an excellent job of keeping the wings secured when you wrap them around your baby (pictured to the right). This is a unique feature that is only found on the Huggies Little Snugglers and Huggies Little Movers. Looking at the sticky tabs themselves, they are one of the largest available today at 1.5 inches in length. Nearly the entire tab has a soft Velcro-like texture to it and it has excellent adhesion to the tab landing zone on the front waistline with slightly less but still excellent adhesion to placement anywhere else on the diaper.
We found that the absorbent padding runs all the way up to within one inch of the front waistline and three inches from the back waistline. This makes it a great choice for stopping leaks from the front, but oddly the three-inch gap in the back is larger than the average brand. The padding is the widest tested at 4.5 inches in both the front and back, giving it more area to absorb liquids than the other manufacturers. The top sheet of the absorbent padding has a textured pattern to it that helps quickly pull in moisture to keep the top sheet dry. This textured pattern also helps slow down both liquids and solids to stop leaks from happening.
This is also one of the thickest diapers tested to date and is one of the most absorbent diapers in terms of total absorbency. This diaper absorbed 40 ounces and it could hold more, but it starts to lose the conforming shape. Looking at timed absorbency performance, the diaper has average results for time to absorb 50 ml and 100 ml. For the 50 ml test, it scored an average time of 15.01 seconds and 33.35 seconds for absorption of an additional 50ml. So although this diaper can absorb a lot, it does not do it quicker than other diapers on average. After our absorbency tests, we tested for moisture at the wettest part of the top sheet and found that it was drier on average than other brands.
Much higher total absorbency than other brands tested. Hourglass body-conforming shape. Dual fasting system that keeps diaper secure. Disney Mickey Mouse pattern on outer sheet.
Very absorbent! Very stretchy back waistline. Contoured shape. Extremely good performing sticky tabs. Has a wetness indicator.
Expensive. This diaper when purchased in bulk will still cost about 28 cents per change. Although very absorbent we found the top sheet had average times in absorbing moisture after the first and second 50 ml tests.
