This is a review of Hello Bello diapers. These are available in sizes newborn through size six. Today we are reviewing size three. These are available in bags of 28, 92, and 112 in the club box. We purchased a bag of 28 for $7.97 averaging to a cost of 28 cents each. If you pick up the club box of 112 then the price drops to 26 cents each. Overall the cost is on par when comparing the price to other eco-friendly manufacturers on the market.
The outer shell is soft to the touch and features a breathable outer cover. For our review, we picked up a bag with sleepy sloths as the outer design but as of today, 57 different designs are available when purchasing from the Hello Bello website. Some of our favorite designs are dancing unicorns, space theme, bacon and eggs, and holiday prints. Like other eco-friendly brands, these diapers do not have an outer wetness indicator, nor do they indicate sizing or orientation information.
The rear waistline has a small amount of stretch to it, about half an inch. The rear wings are very flexible and stretch quite a bit allowing for a total of 14.5 inches of stretch tab to tab. The front wings are the smallest currently found on a diaper as of this review. The sticky tabs are nice and long with excellent grabbing power when attached to the front tape landing zone. They also grab and hold on very tight if attached to the body of the diaper.
The super-soft absorbent padding is longer than average at 13 inches in length, and it extends up to one inch short of the front waistline. The padding also has good coverage in the backstopping 2.75 inches from the back waistline. The inner padding has a slight honeycomb texture and is slightly thinner on average than other diapers measured to date. Although it is thinner, it still can absorb 29.24 ounces under pressure which is average for a size 3 diaper. Looking at the absorbing performance, we found that it took 21.3 seconds on average to absorb the first 50 ml of fluid below the top sheet and 56.01 seconds to absorb an additional 50ml after 90 seconds. These times are slower than other brands but are on par with eco-friendly brands. After an additional 120 seconds, the absorbent top sheet scored the second wettest measurement from our moisture meter and felt slightly damp to the touch.
Overall the absorption performance is below non-eco-friendly diapers since these manufacturers do not use compounds that other brands use to absorb liquids. When comparing the Hello Bello diapers to other eco-friendly brands we found that they were slightly drier than others on the market.
Huge amount of available outer designs available on the Hello Bello website! Sleepy Sloths pictured to the right. No wetness indicator. Eco-friendly.
Slight elasticity on the waistband with very stretchy wrap-around wings. The front tapes grab and stay put when fastened to the tape landing zone on the front of the diaper. The absorbent material runs much closer to the back of the diaper than other brands. This is good for catching mess before it has a chance to escape out the back (known as a blowout).
No wetness indicator yet on any eco-friendly diapers to date! Very small front wings on diaper. Absorption performance is typical of other eco-friendly brands but not as good as other non-eco brands.
